Purpose. Our aim is to evaluate the results of treatment with computed tomography (CT) guided percutaneous radiofrequency ablation for osteoid osteomas which were localized in a difficult area for operation. Materials and Methods. Glenoid, distal tibia, humerus shaft, proximal humerus, and in third finger of the hand proximal phalanx were involved in one patient. Proximal femur was involved in ...
متن کاملPercutaneous radiofrequency ablation of osteoid osteoma.
Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone tumor. Patients usually require surgical treatment for reliable pain relief. Difficulties with intraoperative localization of the tumor and anatomic locations that carry a high morbidity with en bloc resection complicate open surgery. Various methods have been developed to lessen the invasiveness of surgery including computed tomography-guided percutaneous radio...

We treated 58 patients with osteoid osteoma by CT-guided radiofrequency ablation (RF). In 16 it followed one or two unsuccessful open procedures. It was performed under general anaesthesia in 48, and spinal anaesthesia in ten. The nidus was first located by thin-cut CT (2 to 3 mm) sections. In hard bony areas a 2 mm coaxial drill system was applied. In softer areas an 11-gauge Jamshidi needle w...
متن کاملOsteoid osteoma : a review of treatment by percutaneous radiofrequency ablation
Over the past two decades, ablation techniques have become widely accepted for treating a range of bone and soft tissue tumours. Radiofrequency tissue ablation is now considered the treatment of choice for osteoid osteomas (OO), with guidance on treatment published by The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). OO is a small, solitary, benign skeletal tumour of unknown aet...

Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone tumor that rarely involves joints. Although there are several reports of arthroscopic osteoid osteoma excisions, to our knowledge, there are no reports of this type of treatment for osteoid osteoma in carpal bones. We report two cases of arthroscopic (a person who had a pain in the left wrist and the other one with carpal tunnel syndrome) with excision of oste...
